Bourgheim

Bourg Home (German castle home ) is a commune with 568 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in Alsace region of France. It belongs to the district Sélestat - Erstein, for Canton Obernai and the Local Government Association, Piedmont de Barr.

Geography

Bourg home is located on the Kirneck that leaves here the foothills of the Vosges mountains and enters the Upper Rhine Plain, approximately 26 km southwest of Strasbourg.

Neighboring communities of Bourg home are Goxwiller in the north, the east Valff, cell Willer in the south, Gertwiller in the southwest, and the Holy Stone in the West.

History

During excavations many potsherds were found from the Gallo -Roman period, suggesting that the village has been inhabited since the 1st century. The remains of a Roman fort were used in the 12th century during the construction of the Romanesque church as foundations.

In the year 738 Bourg home was first mentioned. In the Middle Ages belonged to the monasteries White Castle, Ebersmunster and Niedermunster lands in Bourg home, which, with the church of Saint- Arbogast, consisted of the villages of Upper Castle Home, with the Chapel of Saint- Nicolas, and Niedernburg home. From the 13th century the village belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. In the 15th century upper castle home disappeared.
