Bournois

Bournois is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bournois situated at an altitude of 405 m above sea level, 9 km north-west from L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 23 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located on a plateau in the hills between the lowlands of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, at the source of Ruisseau de Fallon.

The area of ​​10:48 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills north of Doubstals. The main part of the area is occupied by a gently undulating limestone plateau, which extends to a height of 400 to 500 m. It shows a loose structure and arable and meadow land and forest land. To the south, the forest area Bois du Chanois. There are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground of the Causse. History

Traces from the Gallo- Roman period indicate that the municipality of Bournois was settled very early. In the Middle Ages Bournois belonged to the rule Granges, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Bournois is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Nicolas, which originally dates back to a Romanesque building was rebuilt in the mid 19th century. In the center several houses in the traditional style of the Franche- Comté are from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 188 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Bournois is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 455 people were still counting ), in the late 1970s was a population growth, but again recorded a decline in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Bournois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
