Bourvil

Bourvil (actually, André Robert Raimbourg; born July 27, 1917 in Prétot - Vicquemare, Seine- Inférieure, † September 23, 1970 in Paris) was a French actor and cabaret singer.

Life

André Bourvil came from a Norman peasant family. Already in 1937, was called up for military service, he was employed until the capitulation of France as a trumpeter in the 24e Régiment d'Infanterie. After that he began as a grotesque comedy and musical clown on the cabaret stage and on the radio. Later he was discovered for the film, playing alongside comic roles and classic character roles. He often played in movies of his friend, director Alex Joffé. His signature role was still the friendly - naive counterpart to Louis de Funès ' choleric characters in the movies.

To avoid confusion with his cousin and fellow actor Lucien Raimbourg, he lay down his stage name Bourvil to, in reference to the place of his childhood, Bourville in the Haute -Normandie.

Bourvil died on 23 September 1970 at the age of 53 years in Paris at the Kahler 's syndrome. He is buried in the cemetery of Montainville in the French department of Yvelines.
