Bowling Green is a town in County Wood in the American state of Ohio, about 30 km south from the center of Toledo. Bowling Green has nearly 30,000 inhabitants (as of 2000 census ) and is the seat of the administration of the Wood County. The local Bowling Green State University with 20,000 students dominated the life of the city.

In Bowling Green are a number of listed buildings and buildings dating back to the time of settlement of Ohio by whites who were listed on the National Register of Historic Places ( NRHP). With the Main Street Historic District and the Boomtown Historic District, two complete neighborhoods are under monument protection.

History

Bowling Green was founded in 1835 by Joseph Gordon, who named the place after his hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky. The town grew slowly until 1886 with the discovery of oil wells broke an oil boom in Northwest Ohio. Also, to Bowling Green oil was pumped by means of derricks, and energy-intensive companies (especially the glass industry ) settled there. However, the sources already started at the turn of the 20th century back to dry up, and the economic activity in Bowling Green was strong after. Opened in 1914, the HJ Heinz Company, a large manufacturing facility in the city, in the Bowling Green State University, founded in 1910, the first lectures were held.
