Bowman Island

Bowman Iceland is an ice-covered island in Antarctica.

The island is about 40 km long and 3-9 km wide and takes the shape of a figure eight on. The surface area is 236.2 km ². It lies in the northeastern part of the Shackleton Ice Shelf, which surrounds the island part. Was discovered the island on 28 January 1931 as part of the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition ( BANZARE ) by Douglas Mawson, who named the island after the American geographer Isaiah Bowman.
