Boyd County (Nebraska)
The Boyd County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Butte, which was named after the rocky environment.
Geography
The County is located in northeastern Nebraska, on the border of South Dakota and has an area of 1410 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Boyd County was formed in 1891 from Indian lands and parts of Holt County. It was named after James E. Boyd (1834-1906), a former governor of Nebraska ( 1891-1893 ).
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Boyd County 2,438 people in 1,014 households and 670 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.89 percent White, 0.00 percent African American, 0.57 percent Native American, and 0.16 percent of Asians; 0.37 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.08 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 1,014 households out of which 29.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.4 percent were married couples living together, 3.7 percent were single mothers, 33.9 percent were non-families, 32.0 percent of all households and 19.6 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size is 2.98 people.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.0 percent population under 18 years, 5.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 21.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 years and 24.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 93.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 26,075, and the median income for a family was $ 32,000. Males have a median income of $ 20,859, women $ 17,688. The per capita income was $ 13,840. 12.9 percent of families and 15.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 19.6 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 11.2 percent of those 65 years.
