Boyle County, Kentucky

Boyle County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Danville, which was named after its founder Daniel Walker.

Geography

The County is located just east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 474 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Mercer County, Garrard County, Lincoln County, Casey County, Marion County and Washington County.

History

Boyle County was formed on February 15, 1842 from parts of Lincoln County and Mercer County. It was named after John Boyle, an early judge in this area and deputies in the U.S. House of Representatives. During the Civil War, the Battle of Perryville took place here on October 8, 1862, fought between the Mississippi and the Confederate Army of the Ohio Army of the Union, were victorious.
