Boys Over Flowers

Hana Yori Dango (Japanese花より男子) is a Japanese manga series of Japanese illustrator Yoko Kamio. The series is assigned to the shōjo genre.

Action

Tsukushi Makino, a 16 year old girl from the working class, changes after the summer holidays to the elite school Eitoku Gakuen, which is particularly popular with the rich high society. She feels the first day out of place, surrounded with rich, snobbish young people. After the first encounter with the F4, a boy clique, consisting of the four richest, most powerful and most popular boys in fierce clashes between the two parties. However, Tsukushi in love with the gentle Hanazawa Rui, who did not, however. The boss of the gang, Doumyouji Tsukasa, in turn, falls in love with Tsukushi and begins to woo them. The intricacies of love entirely dissimilar characters are the main theme of the manga.

The manga is located in modern Tokyo, it being understood also to social and economic problems. Various cities in Japan, Paris, New York and Canada are sideshows of the action. All the characters are young people 16 to 18

Title of series

Hana Yori Dango The title is a pun on the homonymous Japanese Hana yori dango saying. In the series name but the character for dumplings ( dango ,だんご) were replaced by the Boys (男子).

Publications

Hana Yori Dango was first published in the Japanese youth magazine Margaret, which is published bi- weekly and is read mainly by girls. There, the manga was continuously released from October 1992 to October 2002 and published in 36 separate volumes. Later, the manga was re-released in a deluxe version which features larger pages and colorful art images.

In addition to publishing the manga released in Japan as an anime series in 51 episodes and an associated film (which has nothing in common except the figures with the plot ). Furthermore, a Japanese television series with nine episodes exist in the first season (21 October 2005 to 16 December 2005) and eleven other episodes in the second season (5 January 2007 to 16 March 2007), as well as an associated movie ( summer 2008 ) with June Matsumoto as Tsukasa Doumyouji and Mao Inoue as Makino Tsukushi.

The Taiwanese television series Meteor Garden and Meteor Garden II are based on the plot of the original manga. For these TV series ultimately emerged a boy band, F4 was called and now called JVKV. Mid-2008 appeared another adaptation of the most popular mangas in Korea, which ran under the name of " Boys Over Flowers". Mid-2009 appeared the fourth live-action version in China. It bears the name "Let's go watch the Meteor Shower" has to do with the original plot only slightly.

The manga series and anime series are available since the summer of 2003 in England, the USA and Canada by VIZ Media under the title of Boys over Flowers.
