Bozkurt (Denizli)

Bozkurt is the capital of the district of the Turkish province of Denizli. Bozkurt is located about 52 km east of the provincial capital city of Denizli. Bozkurt had at the last census 4,589 inhabitants ( as of December 2010). With the associated villages and small towns, the population is 11,738.

The city was founded by Bozkurt Turkish refugees from Bulgaria who were expelled during the Russo -Turkish War in 1878 from there. Today the descendants of Turkish refugees make up the majority of the population of the district.

Bozkurt is an agricultural county with many irrigation systems. A notable attraction is the lake Karagöl. It lies at an altitude of 1,250 meters on the mountain, on whose slopes the city Bozkurt is. The area is surrounded by dense forest with several small lakes that are fed by streams.
