Bozouls

Bozouls ( Occitan: Boason ) is a commune with 2752 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aveyron in the Midi -Pyrénées; it belongs to the administrative district Rodez and the eponymous canton Bozouls whose capital it is.

Geography

The municipality is located in the countryside Causse, north of the Causse du Comtal, about 15 kilometers northeast of Rodez. Neighboring communities of Bozouls are:

  • Bessuéjouls in the north,
  • Espalion in the Northeast,
  • Gabriac in the east,
  • Bertolène in the southeast,
  • Montrozier in the south,
  • Rodelle in the West,
  • Sébrazac in the northwest.

The municipality is crossed from southeast to northwest from the river Dourdou, the deep gorges dug into the rocky ground of the Causse ( Gorges du Dourdou ). The place Bozouls itself is located on a narrow river loop of Dourdou, with the castle and the old town is within the loop of the river on the left bank, the rest of the city on the right bank, where the houses extend to the edge of the 100 meter high cliff.

The main traffic on the road is the road department D988 that coming from Rodez, swings in Bozouls to the west and at Banassac connection is to the A75 motorway. In the city of Bozouls the D920 branches off, which leads north to Aurillac.

The nearest airport Aeroport de Rodez - Marcillac is about 20 kilometers away.
