Brachetto

Brachetto is a red grape that is found almost exclusively in the southern Piedmont, Italy. It is grown in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria for many centuries.

Brachetto is an aromatic variety, are made from the sweet and liqueur -like wines. Almost Brachetto varietal wines can be found at Brachetto d' Acqui DOCG wine and the Piemonte Brachetto. Approved the vine is also in Ruchè castagnole di Monferrato. Brachetto d' Acqui is slightly sparkling and remembers the taste of strawberries.

Whether the Brachetto grape variety with the French Braquet Noir and Brachet is related, remains controversial. The Ampelographic varietal characteristics, however, speak against it.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy and white wool coated with a thin crimson approach. The young green leaves are hairy spinnwebig and bronze mottled ( Anthocyanflecken ).
  • The medium-sized leaves ( see also the article sheet form) are not lobed or three-lobed, and then hardly sinuate. The petiole is closed at lyres -shaped. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are compared to the vine medium to large. The leaf surface (also called lamina ) is vesicular coarse.
  • The drum-shaped bunch is medium in size, slightly shouldered and dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are medium in size and of a black - blue color. The juicy berries are easily muscat -like.

The yielding variety matures about 20 days after Chasselas, and thus is already considered late maturing. Brachetto is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic disadvantage is avoided, no return delivered to have male plants grow
