Brachystegia glaucescens

Brachystegia is a plant genus in the subfamily of carob plants ( Caesalpinioideae ) within the legume family ( Fabaceae ). The approximately 26 deciduous tree species are native to tropical Africa and many species belong to the miombo Vegegation.

Description

Brachystegia species grow as unreinforced trees. The alternate arranged on the branches leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade. The paired pinnate leaf blade usually contains four to many, rarely two or three pairs of opposite, sessile leaflets. There are glands on the petiole and the Blattrhachis. Stipules are present.

In terminal, simple or compound, racemose inflorescences are usually many flowers together. The flowers are each about two well-developed bracts, the flower bud fully enclose and during the heyday remain on the flower. There are no available until eleven, usually four to seven bloom, which usually sepal -like, equal to diverse and changing inwardly stepped their width from wide to narrow. There are usually ten stamens present.

The balding and woody legume is flat, oblong to boat-shaped and the upper end is beaked. The legume opens at maturity and thereby twist the two fruit flaps. The seeds are flat.

Systematics and distribution

The genus Brachystegia in 1865 erected by George Bentham in Genera Plantarum, 1, p 582. The genus belongs to the tribe Brachystegia Detarieae in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae within the Fabaceae family.

Use

The wood, for example, Brachystegia cynometroides, Brachystegia eurycoma, Brachystegia leonensis, Brachystegia nigerica is used. Trade names are: naga, EKOP - naga, bogdei, tebako, okwen, mendou or Meblo.
