Brad Daugherty (basketball)

Bradley Lee Daugherty (born 19 October 1965 Black Mountain, North Carolina ) is a retired American professional basketball player. Daugherty was the NBA Draft 1986, the first overall pick and played his entire career for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

College

Daugherty played for the successful University of North Carolina under coach Dean Smith idol. Among other things, Daugherty was between 1982 and 1984 teammate of Michael Jordan. Daugherty was one of the best center player of his time. Even as a 16- year-old he played for the Collegteam the Tar Heels. He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

NBA

In the 1986 NBA Draft the Cleveland Cavaliers put on first place. Together with his fellow rookie Ron Harper and Mark Price improved the Cavaliers their balance sheet. Daugherty was appointed to the NBA All- Rookie Team. Over the next several years he was a constant supplier points and rebounder. He was nominated five times between 1988 and 1993 for the NBA All-Star Game. He was also appointed to the All- NBA Third Team in 1992.

At the age of 30 he gave, after two years of inactivity, known end of his career due to back problems. During his eight year career Daugherty scored 19 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He left the Cavaliers as the most successful points scorer and rebounder the team's history. His points record was later surpassed by LeBron James, his rebound record of Žydrūnas Ilgauskas. His jersey number 43 was retired on March 1, 1997 by the Cavaliers.

End of career

After his career end Daugherty worked as an analyst for college basketball games, as well as a commentator on the NASCAR racing series for ESPN. He was also co-owner of the Camping World Truck Series teams Liberty Racing. Today he continues to work as a commentator and analyst for the NASCAR racing series and is also co-owner of JTG Daugherty Racing team.
