Brădeni

Bradeni (Romanian earlier Hendorf; German Henn village, Hungarian cherish ) is a municipality in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania, Romania. In 1992 there were 751 inhabitants in the proper place.

Location

The long road Bradeni village is located on the National Road 106 about 480 m high in the upper reaches of the river Hârtibaciu ( Harbach ). The neighboring towns Agnita ( Agnetheln ), Sighisoara ( Sighisoara ) and Fagaras ( Fagaras ) are all within about 20 kilometers away from Bradeni. Because of its location on Military Road from Sighisoara by Fogarasch the place was exposed in times of war repeatedly fire and Plünderungsgefahren.

History

Henn village was first mentioned in 1297 as terra Heen. The result is the place in the first half of the 13th century as a founding German settlers, known as the Transylvanian Saxons. In 1300 began the construction of a stone church castle whose completion still took place in the 14th century. 1350 received the Andrew's Church of Henn Dorff an indulgence for their equipment. The underlying document is the oldest preserved document with the German form of the place name.

1426 has been documented that Henn village is a free community of Transylvanian Saxon crown land, a year later ( 1427) was to bring the community to the market. Three fires in the years 1503, 1539 and 1566 caused severe damage. A survey from 1920 counted 1,020 inhabitants, of whom 539 with about half was Protestant, which corresponded to approximately the same number of German residents. In the present, very few citizens Saxon descent in the place live.

By whoosh, a narrow gauge railway, the place from 1898 to the sixties of the 20th century was tied to the rail network.

Economy

The Henndorfer craft guild was known beyond the country's borders, especially the carpentry trade. The witness also the beautiful church fixtures and the Gothic chests in the attic of Henndorfer fortified church.
