Bradford N. Stevens

Bradford Newcomb Stevens ( born January 3, 1813 in Boscawen, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, † November 10, 1885 in Tiskilwa, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bradford Stevens attended the common schools and in Montreal, Canada. Then he studied until 1835 at Dartmouth College in Hanover. Over the next six years he worked as a teacher in Hopkinsville (Kentucky ) and New York City. In 1846 he came to the Bureau County, Illinois, where he worked in commerce and agriculture. He also held the office of county surveyor and was mayor of Tiskilwa. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1870, Stevens was in the fifth electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Republican Ebon C. Ingersoll on March 4, 1871. Until March 3, 1873, he was able to complete a term in Congress. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Bradford Stevens operated again in trade and agriculture. He died on November 10, 1885 in Tiskilwa.
