Bragi Ólafsson

Bragi Ólafsson ( born August 11, 1962 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic musician, poet and author.

Life

Bragi closed in 1981, the Commercial College of Iceland in Reykjavik with a diploma before he subsequently received his Master's degree at the Reykjavik College of Hamrahlid in the subjects of English, Spanish and French. In the years 1985 and 1986 he studied Spanish language and literature at the University of Granada, ending his 1987 Spanish studies at the University of Iceland.

Bragi is best known for his work as bassist of The Sugarcubes in the between 1987 and 1992. The Sugarcubes were an avant-garde pop group from Iceland, who accompanied the singer Björk until they went their own successful career with her singing style. The Sugarcubes were found together in 1986, after they had previously occurred in different groups in different Icelandic groups. Bragi and the singer Einar Örn Benediktsson and trumpeter had been previously published by Einar's own record company grams together records. The band the Sugarcubes broke up in 1992 after Björk began her career as a solo singer.

Bragi began in 1986 his career as a writer with the publication of his book of poems Dragsúgur (drought ). At the same time he continued working in the company of Sugarcubes Smekkleysa ( Bad Taste Ltd. ), Published poetry, historical folk music, modern Icelandic music and pop music.

Today ( 2012) no longer works Bragi as a musician but devoted himself to writing in Iceland. He has been twice nominated for the Icelandic Literature Prize.
