Brahehus

Brahehus is the ruin of a mansion in the Swedish municipality of Jönköping.

Per Brahe the Younger had the building built in 1637 for his wife Christina, but it was done on the basis of Bauschwierigkeiten only in the middle of the 1650s - years. Among other things, the situation aggravated on a hill to transport building materials. Since Christina died in 1650, it used the building as accommodation for the guests of the Count. The finished building consisted of a large main building on the cliffs above the lake Vättern and two square corner towers. From here we had an excellent view over the lake, the island Visingsö and location Gränna.

After the death of Per Brahe the device was removed and shortly afterwards the whole county became the property of King Charles XI. about. In the fall of 1708, a fire in the adjacent village Uppgränna broke out globally, also the manor house, which burned down to the ground. Today the E4 motorway runs right past the Brahehus.
