Brahetrolleborg

Daughter monasteries

No

The Brahetrolleborg castle was built from the former monastery Holme ( Insula Dei ), a Cistercian monastery on the island of Funen in Denmark. Since its secularization the system as a lock Brahetrolleborg is known.

Location

The Brahetrolleborg Castle is situated 10 km north- west of Faaborg on the island of Funen ( Fyn ) at today's town of Corinth.

History

The monastery was founded in 1172 by Abbey Herrevad in Skåne, Sweden today, a daughter house of the monastery of Citeaux. With the Reformation and the end of the count feud 1536 the monastery passed into state ownership. The Danish Crown sold the manor in 1664 to the Holstein Kaufmann Christoffer Fork, the only three years later eintauschte it against the limestone of Segeberg. Since the acquisition by the Chief Minister of Altona Christian Detlev von Reventlow in 1722 the Reventlow family owned plant was subsequently named after former owner families, first since 1568 Heinrich Rantzau Rantzausholm and since 1667 Brahetrolleborg.

Buildings and plant

Built after the bernhardi African plan church is now the Church of Brahetrolleborg. It has a tower in the façade and features a crucifix by Claus Berg, which was created from this in 1500. The right location of the church convent has been converted to the castle.
