The Brahmas are an ancient chicken breed.

General

Brahma originated in North America, likely from crosses of Cochin, Malay and Chittagong chickens and can thus be attributed to the chickens Asian origin.

History

When the chickens came to the Giants scoring Brahmas in the 19th century to Europe, they were the first in England and later in Germany, the " large mode " of the breed poultry. Above all, by their very broad and strong physique, the lush feather and down wealth, smooth shape and richly feathered legs, the massive figure, worthy of their attitude and their complacency they were popular very quickly. However, the situation with the two world wars, countering the spread of this race, mainly because of the considerable consumption of food, which was hard to come by in these hard times. The first Brahmas were introduced in 1850 to Germany, namely the white-black columbia (then " bright ") and the silver-colored banded (formerly "dark ").

Meanwhile, the Brahmas in Germany are grown in nine recognized color varieties:

  • White-black columbia,
  • Yellow-black columbia,
  • Yellow-blue columbia
  • Silver - banded,
  • Partridge - banded,
  • Blue partridge - banded,
  • Blue silver - banded with orange back
  • Blue
  • Black

Appearance

In its appearance, the Brahmas embody courage and strength caused by its size, bulky body and wide medium-high stand They are characterized by a calm demeanor, a challenging attitude and a bold look. Racial characteristics of the Brahmas are:

- The great broad, deep and stretched horizontally supported Hull

- A full and well- rounded chest

- The three-row pea comb has its thorn

- The broad, small head well set with projecting apex above the eyes, the neck

- A short, strong beak

- Heavily feathered legs

Purebred Brahma recognized by the fact that not only the outer toes are feathered, but also the Mittelfußzehe. When mongrels can see the purebred Brahmas very similar to the fletching on the middle toe is missing.

Special

The Brahmas put normal sized eggs. These appear in relation to body size, however, relatively small.

Another special feature is the feathers on the legs, which grow primarily on the outer sides of the legs to the side. The Brahmas have a small comb, their shape resembles the head of an eagle.

This chicken breed is characterized by a very quiet character from, they are more cautious and are easily trusting. The hens have a strong nesting instinct. The chicks should hatch in the spring, because they grow slowly and fletch just as slowly.

Brahmas are quite sensitive to too strong excitement and get on to great excitement all too easy for a heartbeat. The animals then fall seemingly no conceivable reason, simply and are dead
