Braided stainless steel brake lines

Steel braided lines are hoses that are a part of hydraulic brakes, for example, or even be used in the household as a connecting line of faucets in kitchen and bathroom.

Installation and use

Usual hoses are made of different rubber compounds, often reinforced with fabric.

Steel braided lines are made of PTFE ( Teflon) tube, which is covered with a fabric made of stainless chrome -nickel steel. Steel braided lines are commonly used in brake systems of high-performance motorcycles and cars as a replacement for an aging rubber hoses.

Differ depending on the type of vehicle at the steel brake lines connections. But they are also formed of stainless metal, such as brass, stainless steel or aluminum.

In the household, they will replace the usually limited flexible pipe connection between the wall outlet and fitting, as ready-made steel braided lines can also be mounted from the laity.

Benefits

  • Improved tactile feedback when braking, as the stainless steel mesh prevents expansion of the tubes.
  • Almost unlimited lifetime, because unlike rubber tubes steel braided brake lines are non-porous, do not swell and are not subject to aging. Conventional rubber hoses should be replaced as recommended by the manufacturer every 4 years. This is not necessary with braided hose.
  • The Brake fluid absorbs less water because the system as a whole is closed.
  • Martens are not able to cut through steel -braided lines usually.
  • Often Stahlflexleitungen are protected by an additional rubber coating in addition to stone chipping.
  • Improved optics, unlike conventional rubber lines.
  • Easier installation in bathrooms.

Disadvantages

  • Slightly higher purchase price.
  • When retrofitting an acceptance / registration in the car papers necessary in Germany without an approved on the vehicle type approval. However, there are now already manufacturers who supply their steel braided brake lines, without exception, with ABE.
  • Vehicle parts can scratch when the stainless steel sheathing is not enclosed by a plastic sheath.
