The nuclear power plant Braidwood ( Braidwood Nuclear Generation Station in English ) is a nuclear power plant with two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors. The nuclear power plant is located in Will County in the northeast of the U.S. state of Illinois.

History

The nuclear power plant has two reactor units, who get approved a power increase by five percent in May 2001 by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The reactors are operated since the takeover of the company Commonwealth Edison in 2000 of the power company Exelon and together have a capacity of 2453 megawatts. Thus, the nuclear power plant is the most powerful in the U.S. state of Illinois.

In March 2006, several lawsuits against Exelon and Commonwealth Edison filed for tritium releases to the local water system between 1996 and 2003.
