Braine- le -Château ( Walloon Brinne - Tchestea, Dutch Kasteelbrakel ) is a commune in the French-speaking province of Walloon Brabant in Belgium. The local government reform of 1977 Wauthier- Braine was incorporated.

The place name derives from Braine, an ancient name for the river grove, which flows through the town, as well as the once located there medieval ( 11th to 12th century ) castle. This castle was built on two clods and is now destroyed. The current castle is located next to the church was built in the 13th century.

Geography

The municipality of Braine- le -Château is located in the Walloon region in the Province of Walloon Brabant good 20 kilometers south- west of Brussels in between 50 and 151 meters. It extends over 22.698 km ². The area is crossed by the stream grove.

The neighboring communities are Tubize, Ittre and Braine -l'Alleud in Walloon Brabant and Flemish Brabant Hall. Thus, the French-speaking community Beauvechain bordered to the north by the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders.

Braine- le -Château has no own train station. The nearest stations are located in Tubize and Halle on the line from Brussels to Mons and in Braine- l'Alleud and Nivelles on the line from Brussels to Charleroi. From the train stations in Tubize and Braine -l'Alleud from Braine- le -Château can be reached by bus.

Braine- le -Château is located on the E19 motorway connects Brussels with Paris.

History

The history of Braine- le -Château dates back to the year 649. At that time donierte the holy Waudru the Terre d' Ittre said territory, to which also Braine- le -Château belonged to the chapter of Mons. Throughout the Middle Ages Braine- le -Château was under the Counts of Hainaut.

The area of Braine- le -Château was by the hand of many families. In 1434 it was taken over by Jean de Hornes, 1670 by Earl et Taxis and tour in 1835 by Count Eugène Gaspard de Robiano.

Under French rule, Braine- le -Château belonged to the department of the Dyle. As a result, it came to the Arrondissement of Nivelles in Brabant. On 1 January 1977 Wauthier- Braine was fused to Braine- le -Château.

Wauthier- Braine has a slightly different story than Braine- le -Château. It belonged to the mayor's La Hulpe in the field of the Duke of Brabant. The Duchy of Brabant was the County of Hainaut adjacent and often involved with this in armed conflicts.

Policy

The municipal council ( Conseil Communal ) of Braine- le -Château has 21 members. The College with the mayor and four aldermen ( Echevins ) is formed out of it.
