Braj Kumar Nehru

Braj Kumar Nehru ( born September 4, 1909 in Allahabad, † 31 October 2001 in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh ) was an Indian diplomat and governor of several states.

Journey

Braj Kumar Nehru Brij Lal Nehru 's father was his mother's social reformer Rameshwari Nehru ( 1886-1966 ). He studied at Government Intermediate College Allahabad, the School of Economics in London, and at Balliol College, Oxford. On October 25, 1934, he joined the Indian Civil Service ( ICS ). After his arrival in India in November, he was first assistant commissioner in Punjab, then sub-divisional officer of April 1937 until 1939.

This was followed by his appointment as Under Secretary in the Education and Ministry of Health. He held this same position in 1940 in the Ministry of Finance, of which he was seconded to the Reserve Bank of India for special tasks. In 1944 he was promoted to Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary in 1947. He represented India, inter alia, on the Reparations Conference in 1945 and the Conference of Finance Ministers of the Commonwealth 1949-50, 1955-56 and 1958. 1946 he worked in a commission of inquiry into the finances of the Australian state with. He was also a delegate to the Bandung Conference.

This was followed by his appointment as ambassador in Washington ( 1949-53 ), he was also director at the World Bank. From 1951 to 1953 he was a member of the UN Committee for budget issues. He also represented India at the United Nations General Assembly in the years 1949-52, in the years 1949-50 and in the FAO. In 1951 he was a candidate for the post of UN Secretary-General in conversation.

1954-57 he was Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Economic Affairs, until 1958 then sole incumbent. Alongside he was in 1955 a government advisor for the standing pre-independence Sudan. From 1961 on he was seven years ambassador in Washington.

His cousin Indira Gandhi appointed him in April 1968 to the Governor of Assam and Nagaland, a position he retained until September 1973. At the same time he was since January 1972 Governor of the newly created states of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura, ie for the entire politically troubled northeast of the country.

In the following, he represented India until 1977 as High Commissioner in London. After his return he became Governor of Jammu & Kashmir 1981-83, from 26 Apr. 1984 - 26 Feb. 1986 then of Gujarat.
