Bran ( Bran German, Hungarian Törcsvár ) is a town in Transylvania, Romania, and located in the district of Braşov.

The 30 kilometers from the city of Braşov ( Kronstadt dt ) remote place was known for its castle, which is located above the village.

Bran Castle, the Bran Castle

The castle sits high on a steep cliff overlooking the gorge and the road connecting Transylvania with Wallachia. The construction was decided in 1377 and then executed.

Bran Castle is tourists repeatedly presented as Dracula; however, it is assumed that Vlad III. Dracula, whose rule did not cover this lying within the Carpathian Mountain area, has never set foot in it. According to others, he has spent a night there in captivity, as it still belonged to Kronstadt. However, it is very reminiscent of the description of Dracula's castle from Bram Stoker 's novel.

Kronstadt gave as the then owner of the Bran Castle in 1920 Queen Mary, the wife of King Ferdinand I. Their daughter, Princess Ileana, inherited the castle. Adopted after the Second World War by the Communist Romania, was Bran Castle (or Bran ) passed on 26 May 2006 with an official ceremony to Dominic of Habsburg, the son and heir of Princess Ileana and Anton von Habsburg ( from the Tuscan line). Condition was that the castle for three years remain a museum.

Habsburg, the Bran Castle reopened together with his sisters and co- heiresses Maria Magdalena Holzhausen and Elisabeth Sandhofer on 1 June 2009 as a museum. On display are objects and furniture from the possession of the Habsburg family, including the crown, a scepter and a silver dagger of King Ferdinand. The castle tower is a luxury apartment is rented for overnight stays. The original exhibits of the castle from his time in the state-owned were taken from the Ministry of Culture in a new museum in the neighboring Customs House (former border Österreich-Ungarn/Rumänien ).
