Brandon Smith (ice hockey)

Brandon Smith ( born February 25, 1973 in Hazelton, British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who was active for the polar bears and Berlin for the Straubing Tigers in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany.

Career

Smith began his career in the Canadian Hockey League junior WHL. There he played for the Portland Winter Hawks. After he has already won in his first season in 1989/90, the continuously increased links Sagittarius in the following years his points haul. In his fifth and final year in Portland Smith reached 82 points scorer in 72 games, which is a relatively high value for defender. Then the defender joined the 1994/95 season in the American Hockey League with the Adirondack Red Wings, the former farm team of the Detroit Red Wings.

Then the Scouts of the Boston Bruins were aware of him, so that the franchise took Smith to season 1998/99 under contract. There the Canadians came though mainly at farm team, the Providence Bruins, used, yet he competed in his first season in Boston five games in the National Hockey League. Overall, the defender completed in three years in the franchise of the Bruins 25 NHL games. In the following three years, Brandon Smith ran for the franchises of the New York Islanders and San Jose Sharks. For the Islanders, he played in the 2002 /03 three NHL games and was otherwise in the American Hockey League action. In the 2005/06 season was the captain of the Canadian Alternative Amerks and in the season 2006 /07 he led his team as a captain on the ice. Despite very good performances this season Smith's contract was not renewed in Rochester, so he opted for a move to Europe.

The season 2007/ 08 and 2008/09 season the defender played for the Berlin Polar Bears in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. In his first season he won with the capital club the German championship and was able to repeat this success a year later. On 21 September 2009, the Straubing Tigers announced the signing of Brandon Smith. After a season in Straubing returned to North America and completed in the 2010/11 season several games for the Bentley Generals in the Chinook Hockey League. Following this commitment, Smith ended his career.
