Brandon Thomas
Walter Brandon Thomas ( born December 25, 1850 in Hull, United Kingdom, † June 19, 1914 in London) was a trained carpenter, actor, author and screenwriter
Life
Brandon Thomas came from a poor family and worked at an early age as the shipyard workers. At first he was a ship's carpenter and began to study shipbuilding and mechanical engineering, but then went against the will of his father to London to become an actor.
From 1870 he worked as a performer, author of a dozen plays and author of revues. In 1879 he joined the London Hare / Dale Company. His only popular piece is the 1892 published travesty comedy Charley's Aunt. It is still performed today, and made him even then rich and independent.
