The geobra Brandstätter GmbH & Co. KG is a German company, which is known for its system - toy Playmobil. The company is the Franconian Fuerth.

History

The locksmith Andreas Brandstätter made ​​in 1876 independently with six employees. His firm produced fittings for boxes and locks. His son, Georg Brandstätter, took over the company in 1908. According to this change, it was renamed in metal goods factory Georg Brandstätter. The company moved to Fuerth, where it was registered in 1926 as a general partnership. Were produced purchase shop items, toy phones and piggy bank. At the beginning of the 1930s, the company name was added to the trademark geobra.

Horst Brandstätter joined the company in 1952 and two years later became partners after he had reached the age of majority. On him the conversion of the product range goes back to plastic. There were hula -hoops, produced steerable seat tractors and piggy banks. Due to the strong competition in the toy business, the product range has been continuously expanded and also water skiing, plastic sports boats, oil tanks and record players. 1969 were built in Dietenhofen new factory building, established in 1971 in Malta, the first foreign production. At the beginning of the 1970s also home decorations, such as ceiling panels and furniture were taken as products in the eye, but not followed up with the beginning of the oil crisis. The company had problems to get enough raw materials and fell into the red.

In this situation, the development of a smaller system toy was accelerated, which was based on figures developed by Hans Beck, the first not found the favor of the boss. In 1972, the figure in Germany was patented. 1973 followed by patents in the USA, France, England and Italy. In February 1974 was first introduced Playmobil and already introduced in the autumn of the year in the market. Initially, the demand could not be met. To date, Playmobil is the main product of geobra Brandstätter.

In 2000, in addition the business of planters and accessories has been developed with the brand LECHUZA systems. The LECHUZA systems made ​​of plastic and are equipped with a Erdbewässerungsystem.
