Branko Horvat

Branko Horvat ( born July 24, 1928 in Petrinja, † 18 December 2003 ) was a Yugoslav and Croatian economist and politician.

Life

Branko Horvat was the son of a surgeon Artur Horvat ( 1895-1980 ). He studied economics at the University of Zagreb, where he received his doctorate in 1955. In 1963 he founded the Institute of Economics in Belgrade, which he directed until 1970. From 1975 he was professor of economics at the University of Zagreb.

From 1989 Branko Horvat was chairman of the UJDI ( Association for a Yugoslav Democratic Initiative ), 1992, he founded the Socijalnodemokratska unija (Social Democratic Union), whose leader he became.
