Brantgum

Brantgum is a village in the municipality Dongeradeel in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is located northwest of Dokkum and has 240 inhabitants ( as of 2008).

Archaeological finds in Brantgum and on the way from Holwerd to Dokkum suggest that 2000 years ago people lived in Brantgum. However, it can not provide information about their way of life meet. The first time Brantgum was mentioned in 1450.

The painter Ids Wiersma (1878-1965) was born on 21 June 1878 in Brantum.
