Brantley County, Georgia
The Brantley County is located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Nahunta.
Geography
The County is located in southeastern Georgia, is located in the southeast about 70 km from the Atlantic Ocean and to the south about 60 km from the northern border of the U.S. state of Florida. It has an area of 1159 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the County's Wayne County, Glynn County, Camden County, Charlton County, Ware County and Pierce County.
History
Brantley County was formed on August 14, 1920 from portions of Charlton County, Pierce County and Wayne County. It was named a distinguished family, which later also of Senator William Goodman Brantley emerged after Benjamin D. Brantley, a member.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Brantley County 14,629 people in 5,436 households and 4,153 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 94.36 percent White, 3.98 percent African American, 0.14 percent Native American, 0.09 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.35 percent from other races groups; 1.08 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.04 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,436 households out of which 38.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.9 percent were married couples living together, 10.6 percent were single mothers and 23.6 percent were non-families. 20.4 percent of all households and 7.7 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.06.
28.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 to 24, 29.9 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.1 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 100.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males.
The median income for a household was $ 30,361, and the median income for a family $ 35,534. Males have a median income of $ 29,269, women $ 20,709. The per capita income was $ 13,713. 12.1 percent of families and 15.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
