Brasileirinho (film)

Brasileirinho is a documentary film about Choro, the traditional music style of Brazil. Directed by Mika Kaurismäki.

Action

The film shows the traditional choro music style as it is played today in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to interviews with famous choro musicians such as Teresa Cristina or Yamandu Costa also the emergence of the genre and its parallels is explained to samba and bossa nova.

Background

Brasileirinho is a co-production between Finland, Brazil and Switzerland. The film had a budget of around $ 560,000 and was filmed in Rio de Janeiro in 2005.

The documentation received very good reviews and Mika Kaurismäki, who has lived in Brazil since the 1990s, even 2007 for the Jussi for Best Documentary was nominated.
