Brasília Metro

Metrô Brasília is the metro in the Brazilian capital Brasília. The network of underground currently consists of two lines that connect together in Y-shaped Brasilia bus station in the center with the suburbs of Brasilia. It is operated by subway from the Metrô -DF ( Companhia do Metropolitano do Distrito Federal). Due to the large distances between the various parts of the city and one only partially functioning city bus system, a rapid transit system in Brazil's capital plan was needed. As a side effect is the area around the station Águas Claras due to the well-developed subway is the fastest growing district of Brasilia.

History

After many discussions on an adequate rapid transit system for the capital of Brazil began in 1992 the construction of the new high-speed railway system. The opening was originally supposed to take place in 1999, but had to be postponed, among other things due to financial problems in 2001. Until 31 March 2001, the hull network with the two branches on the terminal Samambaia or Praça do Relógio with a total of 11 stations and 31 kilometers was completed. The regular commercial operation took the operating company on September 24th of the same year. However, the commissioning enrolled only the opening of individual stations to resume operations as quickly as possible. To date, among other numerous stations between the stations and Galeria 114 Sul are not yet completed. On 6 February 2002 the opening of the stations Samambaia Sul and Arniqueira followed, on 18 May 2004, the station Concessionárias.

In April 2008, the section of the previous terminus Praça do Relógio to the new terminus was extended Estação 27 (Terminal Ceilândia ). Guariroba, Ceilândia Centro, Ceilândia Norte and terminal Ceilândia: Here in this area, six new stations, of which first four were put into operation emerged.

In the same month, the station was put into operation 108.

Planning

Currently, the metro runs only through the south wing of Brasília to the center, it should be extended in the future but also through the north wing of the city and end at the future terminal Asa Norte. Furthermore, for the first time to a tram route ( Metrô Leve or VLT) to be built, which will run parallel to the existing metro line to the west of the north and the south wing and should lead to the airport of Brasília. It should be able to change trains at the terminal stops Asa Sul and Asa Norte terminal of the tram to the metro. The tram line is to be completed up to the Football World Cup 2014.
