Braslav of Pannonian Croatia

Braslav († 897 ) was a Croatian Knez ( Prince ) and 880-896 of the last ruler of the inland Croatia ( Hrvatska Panonska ) that during his reign was under East Frankish suzerainty.

Braslav, or a person with the same name, according to ancient sources is the person, according to the Slovak capital Bratislava today was named to 900.

Life

Under King Arnulf of Carinthia Braslav fought against his Slavic neighbors, the prince Svatopluk of Moravia. The alliance against Great Moravia was reinforced by the Magyars, who also fought on the side of King Arnulf.

After the death of Arnulf the Hungarians turned against the new Frankish king, who thereupon Braslav 896 additionally mandated to protect against the Magyar plundering the Balaton Principality. In addition Braslav was still ruler of Karantania.

In 901, the Magyars Braslavs overran areas and killed him.
