Brasserie

Brasserie is a French term for a certain type of restaurant. It is less formal and easier equipped as a restaurant, but has as opposed to a Bistro, Bar Tabac or café over a greater variety of hot dishes. The term is now also in non- Francophone countries for restaurants of this style use.

The word actually means Brasserie brewery. The use of the term for restaurants probably goes back to breweries and brewpubs in northern France and Belgium, the offer in their dining rooms adjacent to the serving of beer traditionally rustic home cooking.
