Braunschwende is a district of the town of Mansfeld in the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt, Germany.

Geography

The village lies on the eastern edge of the Harz about 25 km north of Sanger -hausen.

History

On December 27, 1370 village was first mentioned as Bruns turn in a certificate issued by Friedrich von Hackeborn certificate.

On 6 March 2009 Braunschwende was incorporated to Mansfeld.

The last mayor of the municipality Braunschwende was Rainer Kaufmann. The current mayor is Norbert waiter.

The coat of arms was designed by Lutz Döring heraldist.

Structures

  • The Church of Mary Magdalene, built in the years 1781-1796 in baroque style and consecrated in January 1787.

  • On the 2nd weekend in July, is organized every year the village festival.
  • On June 1 of each year is celebrated the Children's Festival.
  • In August each year a retiree birthday is performed.
  • In December each year, all retirees are invited to the Christmas party.

Braunschwende is referred to by the vernacular in Mansfeld also Traun. The inhabitants are called Paschinger or Paßladen. Where does this name comes, is not known.
