Braz da Viola

Braz Roberto da Costa, short Braz da Viola (* 1961 in Consolação, State of Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian musician, luthier, conductor and teacher.

Musician

He learned to play the guitar at 15 years with his uncle Braz Aparecido and Dean Barioni. In 1991 he founded the " Orquestra de Viola caipira de São José dos Campos ," to make known the viola caipira. In August 2006, he was one of the representatives of Brazil at the Festival of World Cultures in Dublin, Ireland. He conducts workshops for Viola caipira in several cities in Brazil. He played together with players like Roberto Corrêa, Paulo Freire, Renato Andrade, dual Zé Mulato and with singers like Inezita Barroso.

Luthiers

The viola caipira is a typical Brazilian instrument, while the viola de Cocho is distributed mainly in the Pantanal. Braz Roberto da Costa learned the craft of Viola caipira -Bauer Renato Vieira in the violas factory Xadrez. Since 1994, he built his own Viola de Cocho in his studio.
