Brda (river)

The Brda ( Brahe ) in Bydgoszcz ( Bromberg )

The Brda ( Brahe German ) is a river in north-western Poland. It flows into the Vistula near Bydgoszcz. The Brahe has a length of 238 km and drains a catchment area of approximately 4630 km ².

The small river runs through the low mountain range of the Kashubian region and is very popular with canoeists; the underflow is connected via the Bydgoszcz Canal ( Kanał Bydgoski ) with the river system or underlying network.

Course

The Brda rises in the community to Miastko belonging, under conservation Jezioro Smolowe [W 1 ], and then flows through a chain of small lakes first south, then east. Behind Pietrzykowo ( United Peterkau, community Koczala ) it bends to the south and then flows some 20 kilometers to the south, where they happened Nowa Brda ( Neubraa, community Przechlewo ). After of right (west ) opens the Ruda ( Kuźnia ) ( hammer flow ), the Brda ( Ziethener German Big Lake ) [W 2], the leaves back to the east flows into the Jezioro Szczytno Wielkie. After less than ten kilometers the Brda empties into the Jezioro Charzykowskie ( Müskendorfer lake ) [W 3] and leaves him in a northerly direction. After about a kilometer of the Jezioro Karsińskie ( Karschinsee ) follows from [W 4] in the left (west) the Chocina ( Chotzen ) [W 5] opens. After leaving the lake the Brda bends to the southeast in order, starting from the left ( north) the widely branched Zbrzyca ( syringe ) [W 6] opens, and flows through the Jezioro Dybrzyk. [W 7] Until the river just before going to Tuchola ( Tuchel ) associated Rudzki Most ( Rudabrück ) crossed the border of the provinces of Pomerania and Kujawy, it runs in a southeasterly, then to Bydgoszcz ( Bromberg ) in a southerly direction, where from the right ( west ) and Others the Kamionka, Sępolna ( Zempolno ) and Krówka and from the left ( east ) open a number of smaller rivers. Above Koronowo ( Crone / crown) flows through the Brda the 1960 pent Jezioro Koronowskie; [W 8] in the city of Bydgoszcz it turns sharply to the east and ends after about ten kilometers in Brdyujście district of the Vistula.
