Brea is a city in Orange County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 39,560 inhabitants ( 2007). The metropolitan area has a size of 27.3 km ².

History

1894, the Union Oil Company acquired 1,200 acres of land in the area and began in 1898 with oil production. A significant development of the city Brea began in 1911, however, emerged as a commercial and small industrial facilities to meet the needs of workers and their families. Brea was officially registered on 23 February 1917 as a community. At this time the place had 752 inhabitants.

Oil production flourished until the 1940s. In the 1970s and 1980s created new industrial and commercial areas as well as the shopping center Brea Mall.
