Break on Through (To the Other Side ) is a song by The Doors from 1967 from the album The Doors. It is the debut single of the band.

History

The piece was composed by the band itself, it was recorded with Paul A. Rothchild. The single was released in January 1967, and included on the B - side of the piece End of the Night. The single then reached only accommodate 126 of the charts in the United States. However, it became a signature song of the band and was often played live. In April and May 1991, the piece briefly went into the UK charts and reached number 64

The piece is the first on the self-titled debut album by the band. The label Elektra Records was bothered at the time of the text line "she gets high". It was deleted on all studio releases into the 1990s. On live recordings you can hear the uncensored version. Drummer John Densmore was playing a deconstructed bossa nova backbeat, organist Ray Manzareks melodies are based on What'd I Say by Ray Charles, while guitarist Robbie Krieger borrowed his riff from the Elmore James Title Shake Your Money Maker The Butterfield Blues Band.

Cover versions

The Stone Temple Pilots who covered the song on the album Stoned Immaculate Doors Tribute. On the VH1 Pilots singer Scott Weiland sang the song live. The Mexican hard rock band La Cuca used a version as a hidden track on their album La Racha.

Blondie played the song several times on their comeback tour between 1997 to 1999. Those days it was the first piece of the first two shows.
