Breakthrough of the Year

The Breakthrough of the Year is a 1996 award from the Science magazine titles for the scientific breakthrough of the year, based on the award of Man of the Year in Time Magazine and similar awards.

( Were awarded in chronological order PCR and DNA polymerase, synthetic diamonds in 1990, 1991 Buckminster fullerenes, 1992 Nitric Oxide, 1993 p53, 1994 DNA repair enzyme) Prior to 1996, there was already an award from 1989 Molecule of the Year in Science.
