Breathitt County, Kentucky

Breathitt County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jackson, which was named after President Andrew Jackson. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Kentucky and has an area of ​​1283 square kilometers without significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Wolfe County, Magoffin County, Knott County, Perry County, Owsley County and Lee County.

History

Breathitt County was formed on February 8, 1839, from parts of Clay County, Estill County and Perry County. It was named after Governor John Breathitt.
