Brecht is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land.

Geographical location
The village lies on the Prüm in the Eifel.
History
The place was first mentioned in October 1266, in a statement of Ludwig Count and Countess Jeanne of Chiney to the provost of Virton, as Brachiet. In 1341 he was mentioned as Villa Brecht.

The population is predominantly Roman Catholic. Brecht is connected to the parish Wißmannsdorf.

Coat of arms
Explanation: The silver shaft oblique line symbolizes the river Prüm, which divides the local situation. On the milling tradition in Brecht points out the silver water wheel on a blue field, while the two towers on a red field symbolizes the filial church of St. Luzia.
Culture and sights
The Branch Church of St. Luzia is located in the village and dates from the 16th century. In 1800 a church aisle was added. Further excavations of a Roman building and tombs from late Franconian or early medieval period exist.
