Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway

The Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway (B & MTJR ) was a railway company in South Wales.

The Company received on 1 August 1859, the concession to build a railway line from Brecon Talybont. On May 15, 1860 and on 28 July 1862, the Company received the licenses for the remaining sections. On April 23, 1863, the section of Brecon to Talybont was opened, on August 1, 1868 followed the route to Merthyr Tydfil and on 23 June 1869, the route to Dowlais. The latter was built and operated jointly with the London and North Western Railway.

On July 5 In 1865 a merger with the Hereford, Hay and Brecon Railway. Since errors occurred during the approval process, the merger was declared inadmissible and not later retried. On 28 July 1863, the Rumney Railway was purchased. Thus, the Company received from the September 1, 1868 access to the harbor Newport.

On January 1, 1922, the company was taken over by the Great Western Railway.
