Breitenbach-Haut-Rhin

Breitenbach -Haut-Rhin (Alsatian Braiteba ) is a commune with 854 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Vallée de Munster in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. Breitenbach -Haut-Rhin is a member of the Association of Communes Vallée de Munster.

Geography

The surrounding belonging to the Vosges area is mostly forested and is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. Just south of the village center is the district of Upper Breitenbach. After the eastern Colmar is about 24 kilometers. Leads through the village, the road department D10 and the railway line Colmar- Metzeral.

Breitenbach is a German military cemetery were buried in the over 3700 fallen soldiers from both World Wars.

History

Mentioned for the first time was the place in the 13th century. During the First World War the town was destroyed to 70%, also including the municipal archives suffered. In the winter of 1944/45, the area was liberated by American troops. To Colmar, there was a battle to win a bridgehead.
