Breitling (Warnow)

The Breitling is a 2500 -meter-wide lagoon-shaped extension of the Warnow, shortly before its opening in the Baltic Sea. The north - south extent is about 1500 meters. The Baltic Sea is the Breitling, connected only by a narrow driveway in Warnemünde, the sea channel. Due to these facts the Breitling is an ideal natural harbor. The Baltic Sea Breitling is delimited by the Rostock district high dune. On the south shore is the seaport of Rostock, on the northern shore of the harbor of the German Navy. There, the Corvette Squadron, the Seventh Fast Patrol Boat Squadron is located. Before High Dune is located just across the tiller ditch the artificially enlarged partially by hydraulic, uninhabited island of Page Werder. The island is a landscape protection area ( bird nesting site ). On the eastern shore, the edge of the Rostock heath is the historic Ausflugsgaststätte Schnatermann with a small marina.

In the 1950s/60s years of Breitling should be connected via the coastal channel with the Szczecin Lagoon. This project was, however, only piecewise realized due to the high costs.

The Breitling was created in the fall of 2005, the first offshore wind power plant in Germany. The wind turbine, which was built by the producing company Nordex in Rostock and went into operation in early 2006, including the rotor diameter of 90 meters, 125 meters high and has a rated power of 2.5 megawatts.
