Geographical Location

Breitscheidstraße is 266-614 meters above sea level on the eastern slope of the Westerwald on the border of Hesse - Rhineland -Palatinate - North Rhine -Westphalia.

Neighboring communities

Breitscheidstraße borders in the north on the community of Burbach ( Siegen- Wittgenstein in North Rhine -Westphalia), cities Haiger and Dillenburg, on the east by the city of Herborn, in the south on the community Driedorf (all in the Lahn -Dill -Kreis) and in the west on the communities of Willingen and Liebenscheid (both in the Westerwald district in Rhineland -Palatinate).

The community is adjacent to the main town of the districts Breitscheidstraße Medenbach, Erdbach, Gusternhain and Rabenscheid.

History

Breitscheidstraße was first mentioned as " Bedinscheit " documented in the year 1230.

The tower of the church built in 1309 is preserved.

The predominantly rural place went from the 18th century, its rich clay deposits to use and so many Häfner factories emerged. In 1880 Breitscheidstraße had 650 inhabitants, of whom lived about a quarter of the pottery craft. By building the fireclay factory in 1899 broke into Breitscheidstraße a new era: Many formerly independent Häfner gave up their craft and were wage workers in the "Factory ". 1916 were counted in Breitscheidstraße 948 and 1925 already 1091 inhabitants.

End of the thirties, the Wehrmacht established an airfield above the village and Breitscheidstraße received in 1939 finally the long -awaited rail connection.

Incorporations

On December 31, 1971, the municipality Rabenscheid closed voluntarily in the community Breitscheidstraße.

On 1 January 1977 also Erdbach, Gusternhain and Medenbach were incorporated by the Act on Restructuring of Dill circle, the counties of Giessen and Wetzlar and Giessen.

The core community Breitscheidstraße is the geographical, economic, cultural and administrative center of the whole community. With its 2000 inhabitants today well the old Kirchdorf is not only the largest district, but provides with its star-shaped in all directions divergent roads a major transport hub of the Westerwald dar.

Museums

  • The pottery museum Breitscheidstraße represents the evolution of the pottery and pottery shows products from 250 years.

Economy and infrastructure

In the core community there is a multi-purpose hall and the other districts have village communal houses. In Medenbach there is an unheated pool.

Traffic

Federal highway 255 touches the southern municipality. Furthermore, the country roads 3042, 3044 and 3391 as well as numerous county roads run through the municipality. The motorway junction Herborn - West to the federal motorway 45 is from the core municipality about 7 km away.

The airfield Breitscheidstraße is also known locally by its bi -annual Great flight days.

Previously Breitscheidstraße was tied over the train track Haiger - Breitscheidstraße to the rail network. In the district Erdbach there was a switchback railway station, which belonged to the Westerwald cross train.

Education
