Brela

Brela is a small village in Dalmatia ( Croatia) with 1,703 inhabitants ( 2011). It is located on the Croatian coast on the Makarska Riviera, 15 km northwest of the town of Makarska.

Brela is a well known tourist place between the Biokovo mountain and the Adriatic Sea. It has become known by the name " Pearl of the Mediterranean Coast of Dalmatia ", derived from the name of Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Mediterranean". 1968 was the place an award for his commitment to tourism ( Master of the Adriatic Sea ). The picturesque white pebble beaches of Brela, lined by pine trees are shaped the location. Landmark of the city is the Brela stone in front of the beach Punta Rata.

The name derives from and characteristic of the environment of Brela are submarine springs which bubble up near the coast below sea level in the ocean. These sources (Croatian vrelo ) generate vortices (Croatian Vrulja ) at the sea surface. The water comes from the mountain Biokovo.

2003, the beach Punta Rata was the American magazine Forbes as one of the 10 named most beautiful world (ranked 6 and thus the most beautiful European beach ). Brela has been recommended as a beautiful beach, surrounded by a fragrant pine forest, the beauty of which leave no one indifferent. For entertainment Hungry Forbes recommends a visit to the nearest beach in Baska Voda on which is not devoid of entertainment.

Brela is located directly on the Adriatic highway and is connected with the public bus to the larger neighboring towns of Split and Makarska.
