History

John Oxley and Allan Cunningham called the watercourse, which she discovered in 1824, initially Bremer's Creek after Captain James Gordon Bremer, whose ship HMS Tamar had just executed charter trips in the colony of New South Wales.

Before the completion of the railway line from Ipswich to Brisbane in 1875, the river served as an important waterway between two cities.

Water pollution

The river is prone to flooding and is considered very dirty. He receives from its tributaries not enough water to serve the needs of the people on its banks and simultaneously flush it out. Therefore, the water quality is poor and the water is very turbid. There are many nutrients and bacteria in the river, especially when sewage and rain drainage from Ipswich to come together. The natural riparian vegetation has been almost completely removed, so that the river banks are now overgrown with weeds. In the lower reaches of the river suffers not only from the discharged wastewater and bodies in the water from the agricultural land, but also the waste water from slaughterhouses.

2008, the annual survey of water quality of the River Bremer issued the Level F, which is the worst possible. Heavy metals such as mercury, chromium, nickel and cadmium were found in the creek Warrill Creek 2009. The reason for the pollution effluents from the RAAF Base Amberley were identified. But they did not reach the Bremer River itself

Water supply

The Lake Moogerah originated on the Upper Reynolds Creek, a tributary of the Bremer River. The reservoir provides drinking water for cities, such as Boonah and irrigated grain fields and pasture.
