Brenda K. Starr

Brenda K. Starr ( born October 14, 1966 in Manhattan, New York City ), actually called Brenda Kaplan, also called " Freestyle Queen", is an American singer who became famous Dance Music, Pop, freestyle and salsa.

Career

Brenda Kaplan was born as the daughter of a Puerto Rican mother and a Jewish father. Her father was an organist and played in the 1960s in the band Spiral Starecase. Brenda K. Starr began a singing career and had with "I Still Believe" and " What You See is What You Get" on the Billboard Top 100 The song " Sweet Surrender " was part of the soundtrack for the film License to Drive. In the late 1980s, Brenda K. Starr worked with Mariah Carey. For a short time she worked as an actress in the movie Beat Street in 1980. Due to decreasing sales figures to her recording contract with Sony / Columbia Records was not extended. In order to feed her family, Brenda K. Starr worked helping out at a mall in New Jersey. She learned Spanish in order to continue working on her singing career and changed the style in Salsa, Latin Pop and Tropical Music. By changing the direction she had success and was nominated again in 2006 with " Atrevete a Olvidarme " for the Billboard Latin Music Award.
