Brendan Daly (politician)

Brendan Daly (Irish Ó Breandán Dálaigh, born February 2, 1940 in Cooraclare in Kilrush, County Clare ) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and a former minister.

Biography

His political career began Daly, who originally was an employee of the public service in 1973 as the candidate of the Fianna Fáil with the first election for deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ). There he took up in December 1992, first the constituency of Clare. Between March 1980 and June 1981, he was first Minister of State at the Minister of Labour. Taoiseach (Prime Minister ) Charles Haughey J. then called him from March to December 1982 as Minister for Fisheries and Forestry in his second cabinet.

In the third cabinet of Haughey, he was initially March 1987 to July 1989 Secretary of the Navy. Then he was between July 1989 and February 1991 Minister of State to the Prime Minister and also Minister of State Minister of Finance. As part of a Cabinet reshuffle Prime Minister Haughey appointed him then on February 5, 1991, first as Minister of Defence and then as part of a renewed government reshuffle on 14 November 1991 Minister of Social Welfare.

Haugheys successor as Taoiseach, Albert Reynolds, Daly finally appointed on 13 February 1992 Minister of State at the Foreign Minister. He held until January 12, 1993, the Office. After his disqualification, he was on 2 December 1992 by the Prime Minister for a seat in the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ) nominated, which he held until 1997, and there took the group for agriculture.

In 1997 he was re-elected Members of Parliament for the constituency of Clare.
